Luke 16:19-31Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19 Jesus said, “There was a rich man who always dressed in the finest clothes. He was so rich that he was able to enjoy all the best things every day. 20 There was also a very poor man named Lazarus. Lazarus’ body was covered with sores. He was often put by the rich man’s gate. 21 Lazarus wanted only to eat the scraps of food left on the floor under the rich man’s table. And the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “Later, Lazarus died. The angels took him and placed him in the arms of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 He was sent to the place of death[a] and was in great pain. He saw Abraham far away with Lazarus in his arms. 24 He called, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to me so that he can dip his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am suffering in this fire!’
25 “But Abraham said, ‘My child, remember when you lived? You had all the good things in life. But Lazarus had nothing but problems. Now he is comforted here, and you are suffering. 26 Also, there is a big pit between you and us. No one can cross over to help you, and no one can come here from there.’
27 “The rich man said, ‘Then please, father Abraham, send Lazarus to my father’s house on earth. 28 I have five brothers. He could warn my brothers so that they will not come to this place of pain.’
29 “But Abraham said, ‘They have the Law of Moses and the writings of the prophets to read; let them learn from that.’
30 “The rich man said, ‘No, father Abraham! But if someone came to them from the dead, then they would decide to change their lives.’
31 “But Abraham said to him, ‘If your brothers won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t listen to someone who comes back from the dead.’”

It is an excellent resource to see, hear and read Biblical content in English, which can be used in a conversation. This fits with my methodology of learning English naturally. With this method you will use what you read, see or hear. You will repeat what you have learned in your own words from each scene or episode of this resource. Discuss with someone what you have learned, and ask questions as well.

Creation -  Gen. 1 (English Text of The Kairos Oral Bible)
1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was empty and without form, and
darkness covered the waters, and the Spirit of God was over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated
the light from the darkness.
5 The light he called day and the darkness he called night.
6 And God created the sky,
9 and separated the sky from the waters under the sky. Then God separated the
waters from the dry land and
11 God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: plants bearing seed according to
their kinds and trees bearing fruit with the seed in it according to its kind.”
12 And God saw that it was good.
14-16  God created the sun, the moon and the stars to give light, and for signs and seasons.
20 He created the fish according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.
21 And God saw that it was good.
22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
25 And God created the animals, each according to its kind and it was so. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the animals and over all the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, male and
female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and
develop it."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air I give every green plant for food."
31 And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. All these things were created in six days.
